Multi-Unit Housing

Loft residences are more common in San Francisco than in its northern neighbor, Marin County. But Porter Development took advantage of the opportunity created by architects Jerry Kler and Jack Rittenhouse to build these increasingly popular, industrial-style live-work homes on an infill site in a bucolic suburban area just across the Golden Gate Bridge. Kler and Rittenhouse had taken the Marin Lofts project through the entitlement process and secured all approvals. When they then partnered with Porter Development, we provided the necessary equity, arranged for financing, handled construction and supervised sales.

There are 15 dramatic residences, each rising three levels, built around a common courtyard and over a split-level parking garage. With 33-foot high ceilings, open walls, exposed trusses and catwalks, the lofts have an unmistakable sense of airiness. The oversize windows look out over rolling hills and nearby Mt. Tamalpais. The interior finishes and materials were selected by the architects and reflect a European aesthetic.
